Description
This large queen scrap quilt is made with genuine vintage fabrics. It is in outstanding condition! This rustic patchwork is perfect for those who appreciate vintage and retro decor. The extra large size gives ample drape over the sides of the bed. Suitable for a masculine bedroom.
The overall size of the quilt is about 100 x 92 inches, with a drop of about 16 inches down each side of a queen size bed.
For a little history: This heirloom quilt top was given to me by my Mom, which I then finished with quilting and binding. She had inherited the center scrappy patchwork blocks from a family friend, probably over 50 years ago! Having been stored away all those years, we can truly say these vintage blocks in the center are like new. Mom, whom was a seamstress for many years and has plenty of experience, finished piecing the center of the quilt with these vintage blocks and then added the outer border fabrics. Note that the recently added borders are not vintage. Once she had quilt top ready, she handed it over to me for quilting and binding.
The fabrics all have a nice, quality feel and are in excellent condition with no tears or weak spots that I could determine. I cannot say for certain whether they are all cotton, but they are like new. The borders and backing that we used to finish the quilt are quality cotton.
I have used freemotion quilting designs in different areas of the quilt. This gives the pretty texture. I especially love the flowing feather quilting in the dark green border. Freemotion refers to hand guided machine stitching, not computer. This means that the design is stitched out according to the whim and skill of the operator, creating a truly one-of-a-kind item.
You will notice in some of the photos that the backing is an ecru tone on tone cotton print, pieced with a dark green floral stripe across the one end. This happened because I didn’t have enough length using just the ecru fabric. This dark green print seemed a good choice to match the rest of the quilt and add a little interest to the back.
I have washed and dried this quilt which makes the fabrics relax and soften, ready to use. Notice that some of the photos were taken after washing which creates the more crinkly, old fashioned look that we associate with homemade quilts.
For care: I washed this in my front load washer, with regular laundry soap, and dried with warm heat. If your washing machine has an agitator, I would suggest using a delicate cycle. It will not shrink any further.
Due to the small size of my business, I am not required to charge tax at this time.
